About Michael Miller

Michael Miller is a prolific and best-selling writer. He has written more than 200 books over the past three decades, on a variety of topics from technology to music to business to social issues. He is known for his casual, easy-to-read writing style and his ability to explain a wide variety of complex topics to an everyday audience. Collectively, his books have sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide.

Miller is also an accomplished drummer, composer, and arranger. He has combined his knowledge of music with his writing talents to produce a series of best-selling music instruction books in Alpha’s Complete Idiot’s Guide series, and continues writing about music for DK. He has written about all manner of music-related topics, including music theory, composition, arranging, drums and percussion, and the music business in general.

His portfolio also includes numerous books about computer, technology, and social media topics, including several books written expressly for older readers and endorsed by AARP. He also writes business books about marketing and other related topics, and has recently started writing non-fiction books for young adult readers. Miller also contributes articles to a variety of websites and publications, and does occasional speaking and consulting.

Michael Miller received a Marketing degree from Indiana University in 1980. After graduation, he worked for seven years in his family’s retail business, then spent twelve years in various positions at Macmillan Publishing. In his last position as Vice President of Business Strategy, he helped guide the strategic direction for the world’s largest reference publisher and influence the shape of today’s reference book publishing market. He has been a full-time writer since 1999.

As a musician, Mr. Miller has been playing drums since he was in grade school, and he attended the prestigious Jazz Studies Program at the Indiana University School of Music. He currently plays drums for Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville, Minnesota.

Michael Miller resides in the Twin Cities area, where he lives with his wife Sherry, several of his step-children, and eight grandchildren, all of whom he loves dearly.
